Selling children and women who belong to poor families is considered a normal custom in the region. . Rafique lost his son in the floods. He was the only bread earner of the family. A lack of finances and resources to provide food and water for the family forced them to sell their widowed daughter-in-law to a landlord in Baluchistan for marriage. They have kept their grandchildren with them. Their new shelter has brought him some hope, as their grandchildren will have a roof over their heads.
