UN-HABITAT's mission is to promote socially and environmentally sustainable urban and rural development. In this regard UN-HABITAT is launching a ‘tree plantation campaign’ from 15 January to 15 February 2012 in the flood affected areas to mitigate the negative impact of flood 2010,post disaster interventions and its associated consequences. UN-HABITAT has unique opportunity to launch massive tree plantation campaign due to its outreach to as many as 30,000 families (358 villages and 398 CBOs) in Sind, Baluchistan, Punjab and Khayber Pukhtoon Khawa. Taking this opportunity as well as need, it is proposed to plant trees at village levels with the involvement of beneficiary households, CBOs/CCB, school committee with the following objectives;
1) To compensate to/improve the greenery in the village.
2) To reduce the local environmental degradation.
3) To reduce the affect of harsh summer at household level.
4) To provide improved access to the fruit, fuel and fodder at the local level.
5) To raise awareness in the affected communities and promote a culture of tree plantation. Read More...... |
