She was one of the most unfortunate ones who lost everything in the floods. She is a widow with nine children from Qasba Gujrat village. Sabri has found employment as a local tailor and stitches clothes, but even then it is very difficult to feed nine children.
“Some days we go without supper and honestly, those days are very tough, especially with the young ones crying because they are hungry,” says the forty five year old widow. Families like these live below the poverty line, they have no education or skills that can give them a job at the local markets.
Through the Pakistan Settlements Flood Recovery Project, beneficiary committees have been formed that liaise between such villages and international organizations so that they can help create opportunities to support families and improve their livelihood
